Registry Tip #33: Enable IP Forwarding in Windows 2000

Hits: Failed to execute CGI : Win32 Error Code = 3

If you install multiple network cards (NICs) in a computer running Windows 2000 Professional there is no really convenient way to enable routing. Yet, if you want the computers on the different networks to be able to talk to each other you need to enable routing on the computer where the multiple network cards are installed. Routing between networks using a software router only works when routing Ethernet networks or Ethernet - USB networks. To route a 802.11b Wireless network you must use an Access Point with a router. To enable TCP/IP Forwarding use the following registry hack:

Hive: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
Key: SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters
Name: IPEnableRouter
Type: REG_DWORD
Value: 1
