Registry Tip #45: Configure Administrative Alerts in Windows 2000 Pro

Hits: Failed to execute CGI : Win32 Error Code = 3

You need to add alerts but Windows 2000 does not seem to include a way. The admin MMC snap-ins don't allow you to configure Alerter recipients. For server, you run the W2K utility, Srvmgr.exe. Thats right, Server Manager. No problem once you realize.

OPPS! Srvmgr.exe is not part of the W2K Pro distribution. You can add Alerter service recipients using the following registry hack.

Hive: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
Key: System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Alerter\Parameters
Name: AlertNames
Type: REG_MULTI_SZ
Value: Add the computers or users you want to receive Administrative alerts

Note: each recipient should be on a separate line in the Data dialog box.
