Registry Tip #311: Hand Icon for Shared Resources

Hits: Failed to execute CGI : Win32 Error Code = 3

The hand icon used to represent a shared folder is embedded within ntshrui.dll for Windows NT or msshrui.dll for Windows 9x. With the following registry hack, you can control whether the icon is used or not.

Hive: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT
Key: Network\SharingHandler
Type: REG_SZ

The SharingHandler key's default value defines whether the icon is displayed. Set the default to blank and no icon will be displayed. Set it to the appropriate dll and you will get the standard hand icon.
