Registry Tip #317: Error 2022 and Windows NT Server Service connections

Hits: Failed to execute CGI : Win32 Error Code = 3

Sometimes the server service cannot keep up with connection requests and generates Error 2022 in the event log. Windows NT server service has a special resource task that preallocates connection objects. Under certain conditions, this task may not be able to keep up with the demand. There are also system problems that may cause this error message to occur including a severely fragmented disk. It or anything that prevents the computer from responding quickly. NT preallocated :

Hive: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
Key: System\CurrentControlSet\Services\LanmanServer\Parameters
Name: MaxFreeConnections
Type: REG_DWORD
Name: MinFreeConnections
Type: REG_DWORD
Name: MaxWorkItems
Type: REG_DWORD

MaxFreeConnections can be set to a maximum of 100 (decimal), MinFreeConnections can be set to a maximum of 32 (decimal), and MaxWorkItems can be set to a maximum of 512 (decimal).

If you get the Error 2022s after you share a Gateway Service for NetWare (GSNW) session, try setting MaxFreeConnections=8 and MaxWorkItems=255. If error 2022s continue to happen, increase the MaxWorkItems value. Unfortunately the PC has to be rebooted for this registry hack to take effect.
