User Tip #135: DVD Support in Win9x, Windows NT and Windows 2000

Hits: Failed to execute CGI : Win32 Error Code = 3

Windows 2000 has built in DVD support. Many people are under the misapprehension that DVD doesn't work under NT4. Not so. It is possible to have DVD running under Windows NT. Since Microsoft does not provide the drivers or support it under NT, you will need to get the drivers from the DVD manufacturer. You will need to be careful that there are Windows NT drivers. Always check the vendors site first. Another good resource is driverguide.com which allows searches for all kinds of drivers and has listenings for all known drivers.

The newsgroup discussions make it clear that its a smooth or rough ride, depending on PC, DVD, drivers, .... Do some research on newsgroups, ask your friends, or upgrade to Windows 2000 (which will present its own challenges). To check compatibility, go to the HCL page, select Motion Video from the in the following types: dropdown, and click Go. This will you a list of DVD hardware compatible with the various Microsoft operating systems.
