You have a bunch of applications open and you need access to your desktop to start another of your favorite applications. You put stuff on the desktop that you use a LOT. Now to get to the desktop, you can use your mouse and minimize the foreground application, minimize the next, minimize the next, ... UGH! A short cut is to right-click on the Task Bar and use the Minimize All option. Works great, you have free and easy access to anything on your desktop. To get back to where you left off, right-click on the Task Bar and use the Undo Minimize All option.
Works great!
Another method is to copy your Desktop into the Start Menu. The Desktop is a folder just like any other. Once you copy the Desktop folder into the StartMenu, to access an application on your Desktop, click Start/Desktop and you can run any application on your desktop. No minimize/unminimize. Different strokes for different folks. Try it. You may like it. To copy your Desktop into the Start Menu:
right-click Start and click on Open
go to \Winnt\Profiles\your logon user name\Desktop in Explorer
use right button, drag the Desktop icon from Windows NT Explorer to the Start menu and drop it.
choose Copy Here from the menu options
After this, you can access your Desktop like the folder it is.
