Many humans are dumped with other troublesome aliens on likely planets to tame and colonize. They don't survive? There are more likely planets and any number of slaves to dump. Story of human and alien struggle to survive and fight back against the slave masters.

Honor Harrington series:

David Weber's military science fiction series are outstanding. His heros are warrior women. The stories are action packed, riviting, with strong characters. His largest and most popular series follows the career of Honor Harrington. Caution: If you read one, you will get addicted. I did.

The Honor Harrington series is outstanding. But , hopefully the first in a new series is wonderful. Quoting from an Amazon reviewer :

... this book is really special. Weber brings three distinctive personalities: Alicia, a very special warrior; Tisiphane, one of the three furies; and a very advanced AI. All three inhabit the same body although the AI also inhabits their star ship.
All I can say is I started reading it at 6pm and finished it at 1:30am.

I have read all of Weber's books, the above and much more. If you get one, you are in for a good read.

Dune prequel - If you are a Dune fan, read it. Leto as a boy Duncan Idaho as a boy. Check link for rest of Dune series.

The only series I enjoyed as much as Hamilton's was Herbert's Dune series. What would happen in a very high tech society under heavy attack and it turns out to be the souls of the dead taking over the bodies of the living. No. No. Its not in the horror genre. It is science fiction with a philosphical religious flavor I have never seen. No, its not religious SF. Its military SF (if a more representative category is needed than simply SF). It explores the issue of what would it be like if the souls of the dead found a way back and could forcefully posses the living. Wonderfully written. I recommend the entire series. The series went through the SF fans here at work. Everyone who started one, read the entire series. Unusual.

In chronilogical order:

Loved it as a teenager

Andre Norton - Solar Queen stories among my all time favorites. I have read everything she wrote, and yes it is mostly juvenile SF/Fantasy. I doesn't matter. Don't let their classification throw you off. They are good books.

Randall Garrett's Lord Darcy alternative history series, Murder and Magic, Too Many Magicians, & Lord Darcy Investigates is fun. Magic takes the place of science. Odd mix of detective, mystery, sf, fantasy, & history.

The Healer is an explorer who was forced into symbiotic sharing of his body with an alien organism. The symbiot has biological control at a cellular level and has stopped aging making the explorer change identities and careers over and over as the ages pass. The dual mind makes the pair best able to respond when humanity is psychically attacked. Hal Clement's has a similar theme. A juvenile SF with the symbiot alien detective merging with a teenage boy to help find an escaped member of his race hiding in a human. Wilson's have a libertarian theme blended in whereas Clement's is focused on juveniles. I loved both.
